Hanshi Koei Nohara.
Hanshi Koei Nohara is a distinguished karate master and the president of the Okinawa Karatedo Shorinryu Ryukyukan and the All Ryukyu’s Full Contact Karatedo Federation. Holding the esteemed rank of 10th Dan in Karatedo, Hanshi Nohara has devoted his life to the study and practice of (Kobayashi) Shorinryu under Sensei Chosin Chibana, and (Matsubayshi) Shorinryu, a lineage directly linked to his father, Kaoru Nohara, a student of Chotoku Kyan.
In addition to his martial arts achievements, Hanshi Nohara earned a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology, with a focus on Ryukyuan culture. His career in public service culminated in 2008 when he retired from his role as an administrator for the Okinawa Prefecture. That same year, he published “The Transformation of Tiy of Okinawa Traditional Karate,” a comprehensive examination of Okinawa-te’s evolution into modern karate. This work has been widely read in Japan and translated into English for a broader audience.
